Why choose this course?
If you love video games, digital storytelling, interactive worlds and exploring how play shapes culture and community, this major is for you.
The Bachelor of Arts (Storytelling, Digital Culture and Games) equips you with the skills to analyse, design and communicate stories across video games, digital platforms and emerging interactive forms. You’ll explore world building, story craft, character development, interactive narratives and how games connect with audiences.
You’ll also gain broader skills in research, communication, critical thinking and cultural analysis that prepare you for creative, community and future focused careers.
Graduates of this course can work in the games industry, digital media, entertainment industry, community engagement, government and public policy.
This major focuses on storytelling, culture and digital media rather than technical game development, making it ideal for students who want to explore the creative and cultural impact of games, along with telling stories through games. If you’re interested in gaining practical and technically focused game design experience the Bachelor of Games and Interactive Environments (Game Design) could be more suitable.
Real-world learning
Real world experiences sit at the heart of this course. From your first year you will explore real world challenges through practical activities that build your skills in visual design, creative problem solving and storytelling for digital contexts. Workshops and tutorials help you develop and apply these skills, while design led projects introduce you to methods used to support community focused change.
You will complete two community engagement units that connect your studies to your local context. The first unit helps you understand how digital culture and storytelling shape communities. In the second, you will apply what you have learned in a real work setting and respond to authentic challenges and opportunities.
All students complete a work integrated learning internship. This gives you the chance to build industry experience, grow your network and gain confidence using your creative and analytical skills in a professional environment.
Within the major, you will work on projects that explore storytelling and the cultural role of video games and interactive entertainment. These experiences prepare you to use storytelling and design thinking in both community and industry settings.
