The Microcredential in Ultrasound Principles and Practice is designed for health science graduates seeking to strengthen their career prospects in the field of sonography. It is also well-suited for medical, nursing, and allied health clinicians aiming to integrate basic ultrasound imaging techniques into their clinical practice.
The microcredential is composed of two modules.
- Principles of Medical Ultrasound: gain understanding of the fundamental physical concepts underpinning ultrasound, including sound-wave interactions with tissue and the mechanisms involved in image generation.
- Foundations of Ultrasound Imaging: with a clinical focus, acquire an in-depth overview of best practices in sonography, and demonstrate how diagnostic ultrasound can be effectively used to enhance patient care across the abdomen, pelvis, obstetrics, and vascular systems.
Flexible delivery
This course offers a blended learning mode of delivery. It combines online lectures and example problem sets for self-paced learning, as well as an immersive, hands-on clinical skills day. You will learn by engaging in an array of case-based learning activities, online learning packages, and small group clinical simulation activities.
Careers and outcomes
Graduates of this course will learn how ultrasound can be used to improve patient care outcomes across different clinical settings. The course can also be used as a starting point for a future career in sonography.
Upon successful completion, you will have credit for two units in the Graduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound once your enrolment is confirmed. Check the course page to review the entry requirements.
