What to expect

The Graduate Certificate in Education (First Nations Education Practice) enables teachers and educators to learn about First Nations perspectives and education and to design localised learning experiences for their own teaching contexts. This course investigates the nuances of curriculum, the strengths of pedagogical approaches and strategies for collaborative practice to assist educators to develop purposeful and responsive learning experiences centred around First Nations perspectives. You will:

  • position your own practice in the trajectory of First Nations education and policy
  • review the research literature relating to First Nations pedagogy to devise teaching strategies appropriate to your context and practice
  • interrogate the way curriculum and First Nations perspectives and knowledges interact, to distil practice protocols appropriate to your context
  • be supported to design and critically analyse a learning sequence incorporating First Nations pedagogy and perspectives.

Flexible delivery

You may study this course part time. If you choose a selection of option units you can choose to study full-time or part-time. 
You can study on campus, online or select a blended approach to suit you. QUT provides a variety of online learning environments to enable you to participate fully, receive expert guidance and support, and be in regular contact with expert teaching staff.

Careers and outcomes

Graduates of this course will be equipped to enhance the learning of all their students, confidently meet First Nations education APST requirements and become leaders in collaborative First Nations education practice. Graduates can contribute to broader policy and community initiatives to progress positive outcomes for First Nations peoples. You’ll be ready to design learning experiences that embed First Nations perspectives in curriculum and through pedagogy.

You have the option to keep learning and build towards a Master of Education.

Details and units

To graduate with the Graduate Certificate in Education (First Nations Education Practice) you will need to complete all units in the First Nations Education Practice major. You may only study the First Nations Education Practice major part time.

 

The Graduate Certificate in Education (First Nations Education Practice) is only available, though not recommended, to non-student visa holders or international students studying from their home country. This course is available 1 year part-time. To graduate with the Graduate Certificate in Education (First Nations Education Practice) you will need to complete all units in the First Nations Education Practice major.

International students studying on a student visa may only study full time. If that's you, you will need to refer to Graduate Certificate in Education - Choice of Units to create a full-time course structure.

Your actual fees may vary depending on which units you choose. We review fees annually, and they may be subject to increases.
