Diploma in Esports

At QUT, you can build an IT qualification that satisfies your interests and supports your career aspirations. You’ll learn from experts, gain hands-on experience and have opportunities for internships in Australia and overseas.  

The diploma component is equivalent to the first year of our information technology degree and provides an in-depth understanding of the esports ecosystem. You’ll cover the fundamentals of esports, including the practical and theoretical realms, the impact of physical and mental health in the industry, esports pro-athlete attitudes and values, esports business strategies and a range of digital technologies.

Bachelor of Information Technology

The bachelor component allows you to specialise in computer science or information systems. In the Computer Science major, you will learn to use hardware and software to design and build systems to solve complex problems or issues associated with efficiency, usability and security. You’ll learn how a compelling blend of IT skills and business knowledge shapes industries.

The Information Systems major focuses on understanding organisational needs to develop transformative initiatives and solutions. You will develop expertise in understanding IT capabilities and implications and proficiency in methods, techniques and tools to improve and innovate organisations and their people.

According to Fortune Business Insights, the global esports market is projected to grow from USD 1.72 billion in 2023 to $6.75 billion by 2030. This esports and IT double degree will equip you with the skills to take full advantage of this exciting industry boom.  

In the first year of this double degree, you will explore exciting career opportunities in esports, from creative conceptualisation, coding and publishing to statistics and tournament organisation and broadcasting. In your second and third year, you will hone your IT skills and develop specialised computer science or information systems knowledge, preparing you for a rewarding career.

Details and units

Diploma in Esports

You must complete 96 credit points to meet the course requirements for the Information Technology pathway. Once you have successfully completed the diploma, you will be automatically offered a place in the Bachelor of Information Technology. Your diploma units will be credited into your degree.

Bachelor of Information Technology

The Bachelor of Information Technology structure consists of 288 credit points with:

  • core units (96 credit points),
  • a major (84 credit points),
  • QUT You (24 credit points); and
  • complementary studies (84 credit points)

Upon completion of the Diploma in Esports, you will complete the remaining 192 credit points of the Bachelor of Information Technology. As part of this course, you must choose a major.
