Why choose this course?

The QUT Bachelor of Science (Honours) course aims to provide a strong and practical foundation for research and professional employment in science. Therefore, the course incorporates advanced theory, professional training (where appropriate), and a research project that leads to a research paper or thesis.

In addition to developing your knowledge and problem-solving skills to an advanced level, the QUT Bachelor of Science (Honours) program aims to equip you with well-developed lifelong learning skills and a strong commitment to professional and ethical practice.

What to expect

The QUT Bachelor of Science (Honours) allows you to develop specific areas of expertise in science further by providing extended, modern, and rigorous training. It prepares you for higher-level graduate careers in industry and government and for research at the PhD or Master of Philosophy levels.

Through research and advanced coursework units, you pursue specialised studies in an area of mutual interest with a personal research mentor/supervisor. You will develop high-level skills in a specific discipline area (biological science, earth science, environmental science, chemistry, climate science or physics) and acquire research skills appropriate to your discipline.

Coursework units allow you to develop much more advanced skills and knowledge than those in the undergraduate course. You will design and undertake experimental programs in either laboratory or field settings to solve complex problems. A research project allows you to demonstrate your advanced academic capability and culminates in completing an honours thesis.

Careers and outcomes

Careers and outcomes
