The primary aim of the Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) is to provide a strong and practical foundation both for research and professional employment. Advanced theory, professional training (where appropriate), and a research project that leads to a research paper or thesis are therefore incorporated within the course.

The Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) program enables you to further develop expertise in specific areas of information technology and related disciplines. It also serves as a pathway to higher-degree research studies. Through this program, you will enhance your skills in a specific discipline and gain research abilities relevant to your field.

You will use analytical processes involving abstraction and modelling to solve complex problems and create new opportunities using information technology. Additionally, you will gain a deep understanding of the discipline and its impact on individuals, organizations, and society. Under the guidance of an experienced researcher, you will complete a project that demonstrates your advanced academic capabilities and culminates in the completion of an honours thesis.

Information technology is essential for all business, industry, government, social, and personal aspects. Graduates of the honours program have the potential to reach the highest levels of their profession.

Graduates can pursue careers as web developers, database managers, network administrators, electronic commerce developers, data communications specialists, software engineers, systems programmers, computer scientists, systems analysts, or programmers.

Furthermore, graduates may advance into specialised positions such as chief technology officers, chief information officers, managers, executives, business analysts, and entrepreneurs. Those with this degree may also pursue careers in academia and research.

Professional recognition

Graduates of the Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) meet the knowledge requirement for admission to the Australian Computer Society (ACS).
