  • Gain practical experience working with consultancies, government, corporate settings, and/or community groups through QUT's Work Integrated Learning (WIL) unit.

In this major you will gain industry-ready skills, knowledge and experience to successfully manage people across diverse organisations. 

What you will learn 

From your very first semester, you'll engage in practical, real‑world learning experiences with our industry and community partners, ensuring you graduate with a portfolio showcasing your first‑hand business expertise. 

Through core business units, you'll develop a strong foundation in critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, business ethics and professional communication - skills that are in high demand. 

In your major, you will: 

  • Develop a strong understanding of the key principles and practices of managing people and organisations. 

  • Gain the skills to help organisations and their people adapt to change, including the opportunities and challenges created by artificial intelligence, emerging technologies and evolving ways of working. 

  • Learn to positively influence how organisations recruit, reward, develop and support their people in an AI-enabled and increasingly digital environment. 

  • Build skills in critical thinking, data-informed decision making and HR analytics, to support organisational performance. 

  • Learn to design strategic and evidence-based recruitment and selection processes. 

  • Explore topics such as organisational behaviour, team building, diversity management, organisational structure and strategic HR management. 

  • Learn from teachers with real experience in human resources and regularly hear from practising human resource professionals through guest lectures. 

  • Learn how organisational structures, job design, motivation and performance management interact to influence productivity. 

  • Study the frameworks that govern employment relationships and the practices needed to foster fair and compliant workplaces. 

  • Understand the underlying psychological principles that maximise employee performance. 

In addition, our WIL program offers internship opportunities with leading organisations, helping you build valuable professional networks and gain practical industry experience.
