The honours program builds on an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited undergraduate psychology degree.
The course will equip you with advanced knowledge and practical skills. You will learn how to conduct and report a psychological assessment, develop your therapeutic counselling skills. Culturally safe practice and Indigenous perspectives have a big focus in these units.
In your final unit you will work with a team of your peers to solve a real-world problem for an industry partner. You’ll provide them with recommendations for their practice, such as how to make their services more inclusive.
You will also complete an independent research project under the guidance of an experienced researcher. Your honours topics can prepare you to move into a career in research in an area you are passionate about.

You will graduate with skills that can be applied to a variety of professional areas.
Honours graduates can apply for a master program to become a registered psychologist, a PhD program to begin a career in research or move straight into the workforce.

Professional recognition
The honours program provides an APAC-accredited fourth year of training.
Graduates of this course are eligible for provisional registration as a psychologist with AHPRA through the Psychology Board of Australia and eligibility for entry to an accredited master’s program.
Further study via the completion of an APAC accredited higher degree (e.g. Master of Clinical Psychology or Master of Psychology - Educational and Developmental) will allow graduates to be fully accredited and able to obtain AHPRA registration from the Psychology Board of Australia.

Entry requirements
You must have:
- A completed bachelor degree in psychology completed within the past ten years (2017 or later) and by no later than semester 2, 2026 (or equivalent) with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 5.00 (on QUT's 7-point scale).
Your degree must be accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) as an entry point into an honours program; e.g.Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Psychology) at QUT.
If you have an overseas qualifications you must provide certification with your application from the Australian Psychological Society (APS) stating your degree is equivalent to an APAC-approved, 3-year training in psychology. Please ensure you lodge your certification request with APS as early as possible, as APS processing times can exceed three months.

You must have:
- A grade of at least 4.00 (on QUT's 7-point scale) for each of the APAC-accredited second and third year psychology units listed below.
- A grade point average of at least 5.30 (on QUT's 7-point scale) across all attempts of the listed APAC accredited second- and third-year psychology units listed below.
- Successful completed an APAC-accredited advanced statistical analysis unit at third-year level.

Entry to this course is competitive as places are limited. All applications will be considered in two groups of:
- QUT's Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Psychology) single and double degree graduates; and
- All other applicants.
Eligible applicants are selected in order of merit based on their APAC accredited second and third year psychology units GPA.
Application dates
- 1 July: applications open
- 30 September: final date to apply and provide all required supporting documentation. Applications or supporting documentation received after this date will not be considered.
- Mid-December: Application outcomes released.
Applicants expecting to complete their studies by December
You must provide your academic record for all studies attempted up until semester 1 this year by 30 September. If your application is successful you will receive a conditional offer that will stipulate when your final results and course completion must be provided to confirm your place.
If you have summer/semester 3 (or equivalent) studies you will need to apply for entry next July. for the intake year after you complete your studies.

This course is not open to current year 12 students. This course is open to graduates with a relevant completed degree with a suitable grade point average and honours topic. Thus no offers were made on the basis of ATAR.
